Roel de Haan : The Saudi act Al-Namrood has been around for ten years already and this ’10 Years Of Resistance’ is their way of celebrating this. The album consists of remastered older tracks, now with a new vocalist called Humbaba. Al-Namrood specialises in black metal infused with elements from their homeland and heritage. This makes their music immediately related to acts like Melechesh who also do this and rose to considerable fame. This won’t happen with Al-Namrood I’m afraid. Although their hearts are in the right place and the music isn’t terrible by far, it relies too much on their cultural background, which makes the music uniform and one-dimensional. ’10 Years Of Resistance’ is only interesting if you can’t get enough of the middle-eastern sound.
