Sodom - Partisan

Label : Steamhammer/SPV | Archive under speed / thrash metal

Release type: Mini-CD

Nima : It was a bit of a shock when Sodom-figurehead Tom Angelripper announced earlier this year that he had parted ways with both drummer Makka (who had been with the band for eight years) and especially guitarist Bernemann, who along with Angelripper was decisive for the Sodom-sound for twenty-two years. That fear soon changed into enthusiasm when it was announced that guitarist Frank Blackfire, who also played on classics such as 'Persecution Mania' and 'Agent Orange', would take Bernemann’s place. With the drum-beast Stefan 'Husky' Hüskens (Desaster, Asphyx a.o.) and second guitarist Yorck Segatz (Beyondition) the line-up was completed, which was presented at the German Rock Hard Festival.

The new line-up is already working hard on the next studio album, but as a warm-up we get this three-track EP. With the title track we have a brand new song that is immediately a smashing, typical Sodom-thrasher and a combination of classic Sodom and later albums such as 'Code Red' and 'M-16'. With 'Conflagration' we get another new song that sounds a bit more old-fashioned than 'Partisan' and breathes the sound and the atmosphere of the heydays. Goddamn it, if the rest of the new album is in the same line as these two, then we can already predict a new classic in advance. Finally, this EP includes a live version of 'Tired & Red' (from 'Agent Orange') of the band's aforementioned show at the Rock Hard Festival. The strength, the energy, and the enthusiasm that this performance exudes is proof that Sodom is living a second youth and is stronger than ever (and that says something!). I am already eagerly looking forward to the next long player. But until we get there we can enjoy this EP, which will be available on CD as well as on 10 "vinyl and of course digitally. The digital buyers are even rewarded with a live version (from the same Rock Hard performance) of 'One Step Over The Line', off 'Tapping The Vein'. Oh yeah, by the way, in case you’ve missed it the band will be on tour across Europe with Exodus, Death Angel and Suicidal Angels starting November 30.
