Berto : Serocs is a technical death metal band that comes from Mexico, but does not consist entirely of Mexicans. The members come from three different continents and you could also hear that diversity in the sound of the band. The band combines difficult passages with a lot of contrarian guitar runs and ditto drums with a sufficient amount of groove. This new album 'The Phobos / Deimos Suite' is a concept album and would be based on 'A Christmas Carol' and 'The Divine Comedy'. Another explanation for the album I have heard is that it is an exploration of Hell, but then the hell that is in your head. With most people a lot is happening in there and I can tell you in the Serocs songs as well. So many complicated song structures, but they always have an eye for a good song. This means that it is not an endless number of notes from beginning to end, but that each song also has several leads for the listener to hold on to and that the brutality is combined with accessibility. A band that you hear a lot is Cryptopsy, but also Spawn Of Possession has passed by as an example. All instrumentation is an ideal accompaniment of the destructive and selfish behavior of the protagonist as described in the lyrics and there is nothing to complain about regarding both the music and the lyrics. ‘The Phobos / Deimos Suite' has therefore turned out to be a classy record that should end up high in the year end lists.
