Wim R. : With ‘Mayhem Inc’ French band Drop Dead is releasing its first full album. They play a sort of no nonsense Rock & Roll. The band themselves say that they are influenced by bands like Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC. Singer and lead guitarist Rob is the one that takes the most of the spotlight on this album. His hoarse, and somewhat melancholic, voice is a good fit to the music the band brings. In a quitter song like ‘Anarchy’ there is even a bit of resemblance to Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. A song like ‘Reason To Work’ even sounds a bit like Nirvana. But you can exaggerate things too much. The song ‘Path To Reason’ is almost a one on one to the Guns N’ Roses classic ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. ‘Never Enough’ on the other hand, is pure Garage rock. The album is a bit too fragmented. Most positive track is ‘No Mercy’, it is here that the band does show their own identity. The band should take this song as a starting point to develop towards their own identity. Now, this album is too versatile. The strong and heavy production is the only constant positive part of this album. Dommage…..
