Vera : When you listen to the dreamy music of Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Sylvaine, it seems as if she wanders through otherworldly realms. Thus it is no wonder that we can find Stéphane ‘Neige’ Paut as session musician behind the drums in four of the six songs. This atmospheric post rock has the same vibe as Alcest. Stephen Shepard drums in the other two songs and the album was once again recorded at the French Drudenhaus Studios. Mastering happens to be an American matter, done by Jack Shirley.
After the release of previous album ’Wistful’ in May 2016, Sylvaine played some selected gigs, but she also toured with Harakiri For The Sky. She even played gigs in Ukraine and Russia. In autumn 2017 recordings for this third album ‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone’ started. In six lengthy tracks, the blond artist builds up a soaring, dream-like atmosphere with sonorous guitar sounds and her high-pitched melancholic voice. The album is rather slow-paced, but accelerations suddenly occur in the long songs. Then she often switches to blackened screaming vocals. When you listen to the album as a whole, it is a bit too much of the same. Especially during ‘Worlds Collide’ the attention strays off. However, those who liked the former album and only want more of that, can purchase ‘Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone’ without risks for three quarters of an hour soaring post rock/metal with occasionally outbursts that refer to black metal, but these are less frequent than earlier.
