Dennis : I am really digging this debut album of the Irish death metal band Zealot Cult! The eight tracks on ‘Spiritual Sickness’ are clearly a tribute to the US death metal scene from the early nineties. The four gentlemen from Limerick play their death metal old-fashioned style and have thrown influences from Morbid Angel, Monstrosity, Death, Obituary and Pestilence in the blender in order to squeeze out a raw and vicious mix of Floridian death metal. Guitarist / vocalist Jay Quigely sounds like Martin van Drunen in the early days and therefore comparisons with early Pestilence makes sense as well. The album is blessed with a real underground vibe, the compositions are raw and truly old school and filled with screeching and howling solos. If you’re into old school US death metal, then you should definitely check out Zealot Cult!
