Sirenia - Arcane Astral Aeons

Label : Napalm Records | Archive under prog / sympho metal

Release type: Full-length CD

Sjak : About every two years Sirenia mastermind Morten Veland releases a new record with his band and as the previous album ‘Dim Days Of Dolor’ already dated from the beginning of 2017 it became time for a successor again and that one has now actually seen the light of day in the shape of this ‘Arcane Astral Aeons’. Just like on the previous record the female lead vocals are courtesy of the French singer Emmanelle Zoldan and if you listen to the whole album, you just can’t imagine that this lady has been a part of the background choir of Sirenia for already thirteen years, because with such a voice you deserve to be in the spotlight.

Not only the vocal performance of miss Zoldan is standing out in a positive way, but also the by Morten Velund written song material is again of a very high quality level. The songs are quite complex and consist of multiple layers, which results in the fact that you will need quite a few listens before the true beauty of the material becomes apparent, but it’s definitely worth to make this time investment. The tracks are heavy, at times very bombastic and orchestral, but at the same time still very catchy and that combination proves to work out great again. Just listen to ‘Queen Of Lies’, the up-tempo ‘The Twilight Hour’ and ‘Love Like Cyanide’, which are all great examples of tunes that will definitely be to the liking of the fans of heavy symphonic metal. As is mostly the case with a Sirenia record the whole affair is of a consistent high-quality level which accounts for the fact that you will be captivated with what Sirenia has to offer on this ‘Arcane Astral Aeons’ from the very first second until the last note played. This Norwegian band has always proved to be a guarantee for quality and that hasn’t changed a bit on this meanwhile ninth full-length studio album. An impressive piece of music I might say!
