Roel de Haan : Carpe Noctem is back with their second full-length of cavernous dissonant black metal. ‘Vitrun’ follows ’In Terra Profugus’, which already was quite impressive. The Icelandic outfit has clearly grown since then because ‘Vitrun’ represents an improvement in all possible areas. Even though the general style stayed the same. That is: eerie black metal, based on the more nasty French acts with some Scandinavian melodies thrown in to spice things up. Carpe Noctem simply intensified all aspects of their style. More dissonant, more atmopheric, more frantic, more leads and last but not least: more darkness. Imagine Deathspell Omega, Mayhem and Arkhon Infaustus in an unholy orgy, spawning forth a bastard child that plays it slightly more straight, but is equally dangerous, perhaps even more so. Fans of nasty and dissonant black metal look no further than ‘Vitrun’ to provide your next fix.
