Pim B. : In my review of the previous album ’Evil Power’ from 2015 I already mentioned the dynamic duo Deathhammer were as good as finished with their fourth album ‘Chained To Hell’. There obviously is a reason we had to wait for three years, which isn’t all that important really. In the meantime we could enjoy the previous recordings of these Norwegians.
Now ‘Chained To Hell’ has appeared the fans of wild thrash metal can easily buy this one since not a lot has changed. Sadomancer and Sargeant Salsten deliver eight new tracks that are deeply rooted in the Teutonic thrash tradition. In just over half an hour the vicious riffs are fired at you in a feverish pace and you can still hear the resemblance with bands Sodom, Kreator but also a band such as Whiplash. The biggest comparison however is Destruction, which mainly is because of the vocals that contain those high-pitched shrieks Schmier already impressed with in the 80s. Besides those comparisons the emphasis does lay on the way Deathhammer deliver their thrash. The toxic songs ooze venom, which should appeal to any old-school thrasher. ‘Chained To Hell’ kills!
