Wim S. : Good things take time. That is just what Maxxwell thought before releasing a new album. And so the band from Switzerland took more than four years to come up with a successor of 'Tabula Rasa' from 2014. What they exactly did in those four years, I do not know, because musically nothing has changed: Maxxwell still plays tasty, melodic heavy rock with metal influences.
The new album is called 'Metalized' and lives up to its name. The music of the five guys from Switzerland is quite nice and firm and always with melody. The vocals of Gilberto Melendez are still excellent; he has a powerful, flexible voice and in combination with the riffs of the gentlemen Montavon and Häfliger, they produce tasty songs like 'P.U.T.V.', 'She's Mine' and some more subdued tracks like 'Scars'. Although I have to say that personally I am more charmed by the songs in which the tempo is higher and the riffs sound a bit louder, like in the title track, 'Done With You' and the nice 'Raise Your Fist'. It is unfortunate that the band does not have more uptempo material, because those standard riffs and songs ultimately are not as impressive as the more heavy songs. Tip for the next album!
