Marcel H. : Pig Destroyer isn’t a productive band when it comes to full-lengths albums. ‘Head Cage’ is only the band’s sixth full-fledged album in the 21 years the band exists and is released six years after predecessor ‘Book Burner’. Okay, between that release and the current one two singles and an EP were released but that was all the way back in 2013. ‘Head Cage’ contains twelve songs in the thirty minutes the album lasts, and closer ‘’House Of Snakes’ alone lasts seven minutes. The rest is what we are used to… short, powerful, to the point and pummels you into submission. Not that ‘House Of Snakes’ is, all of a sudden, a soft song. Absolutely not. It is still a grindcore song through and through. Just one where the band decided to shift a couple of gears down, which makes it come across as a heavy roller. This sixth album is through and through a Pig Destroyer album. So, expect quirky top-notch grindcore which you’ll immediately identify as being Pig Destroyer. Fans of the band’s previous output can blindly purchase ‘Head Cage’. Other grindcore fans also need to do that.
