Marcel H. : After well-received debut album ‘Below The Green’ from 2015 Tomb Of Finland from Finland (as if we couldn’t guess that) returns with ‘Frozen Beneath’. The first thing one notices is that the pure doom sound of the debut is no longer present and that the band now plays way more melodic death metal. At points the doom sound does come to the fore and it is clear we’re dealing with the same band. Compare it in that sense with how Novembers Doom developed. On ‘Frozen Beneath’ the songs are characterized by an interesting build-up and melodic guitar solos and guitar parts in every song. They are compact and to the point. Nowhere do they exceed the 5.5 minutes. Anyone who enjoys well-executed melodic death metal with some doom influences must surely give ‘Frozen Beneath’ a listen.
