Wim R. : Up till now I never heard of Federal Charm before, but with ‘Passenger’ the band is releasing its third album. On this album drummer Josh Zahler and vocalist Tom Guyer make their debut with Federal Charm. The band approached this album differently than the two previous albums. The first two were a case of plug in and play. With ‘Passenger’ the band took more time for pre-production. The eleven songs on offering are very organic and pure. You could label Federal Charm as a rock or blues rock band. A good example of this is ‘Emerald Haze’. It has a nice sound to it with pleasantly laid back vocals. In the, somewhat psychedelic sounding, ‘Death Rattle’ the band makes a stand to keep rock clubs open in the UK. The line where they speak of their ‘homes away from home’ in this song is touching. I think Federal Charm made a good decision to get Tom Guyer onboard as their new vocalist. He has a nice and varied voice, and sounds natural in doing so. If the biography is correct, the band is slowly gaining ground in the UK. With songs like ‘Get Through’ the band shows much potential to get bigger and better.
