Wim R. : D’Ercole is one of the many bands/projects of American artist Phil Vincent. Musicwise Vincent writes and performs melodic rock and AOR. In D’Ercole he collaborates with the brothers who carry the same name as the band. Earlier this year I reviewed another record of Vincent, Tragik's latest release ‘Tainted’. Not really a a classic. I also wrote that I did not think the quality would improve in the future. Prophetic words after listening to ‘Made To Burn’. It is not necessarily bad or something, but it seems to carry on in the same range: lack of real variety and a catchy edge. After hearing the album I also get the feeling the songs come from different recording sessions. The first three tunes, of which ‘Out Of Time’ is the strongest, sound well produced, but from ‘Feel The Burn’ on the sound is completely different, with a strange and irritating guitar sound. Best songs are ‘Get Undone’, but this song also has that strange and messy production, and ‘Slow Motion’, which holds a nice piano melody. Oh well, I guess that while I'm writing this Mr. Vincent has already canned his next output, but I sincerely hope speed equals quality then. Results from the past do not raise my spirits though.
