Wim S. : Theia is a power trio from England that with 'The Ghost Light' already release their third full length album. The band is led by singer / guitarist Kyle Lamley who was musically inspired by his father's record collection, which featured work by bands like T-Rex, Alice Cooper and AC/DC.
Yes, and you hear that very well in the uplifting music of the three Britons. Where in the opening track 'What You Want' you hear a few quite modern riffs, we hear classic rock chords of the Young brothers in the following 'Mask Of The Day'. But then with a Jon Bon Jovi as a singer. Nice and raw but still melodic, if you know what I mean. That combination we hear the entire album: there is always melody, it all sounds catchy and very radio friendly ('The Revelator'). The combination of fairly classic rock riffs and structures, with modern influences (Muse, Danko Jones), works well with this band. It is not exciting, but the nice performances of the songs compensate a lot. Fine album, especially for this time of the year.
