Cor : The still young (and hungry) guys of Kissin’ Dynamite have proceeded on their path of more polished melodic rock, sleaze and metal, with their latest release ‘Ecstasy’. The two previous releases were slightly disappointing to me personally; I got the impression of these albums being a bit too sophisticated commercial poppy, without any soul. The fire and conviction from especially the more metal orientated debut album was completely gone to me.
Although the new album is pretty accessible once more, the band seems to have grown in integrating the passion again, even when it gets pretty close to Bon Jovi like slickness. It’s pretty hard to maintain the sparks of passion, when the sound is this polished poppy, but in a way these guys succeeded to sound more honest again. The guitars had always remained a solid piece of the foundation, but with this new album they can truly reach me again; Goosebumps at times. To be honest, the ballads may even be better than ever, and the thundering ‘Breaking The Silence’ can truly convince me; despite the dark and bombastic elements, no traces of artificiality this time. Also a great solo by the way. Not every track can immediately blow me away, but these guys have certainly released a very nice piece of work again.
