Henk : 'Dread En Ruin' is the second album of two-man formation Necrytis. The band consists of drummer, vocalist Shane Wacaster and guitarist, bass player Toby Knapp. In the bio Fates Warning and Queensryche are mentioned as influences as Jethro Tull and Def Leppard. That is a special mix and that is exactly what it is. Musically it is all very good on the album. However the drums could have been more prominent in the mix and especially the bass drum. Six songs on this album that nevertheless take fifty minutes together. Expect fine heavy metal with great guitar solos that reminds me of the Shrapnel guitarists from the eighties. The only downside to the release is singer Shane. He is a great drummer. As a singer, however, he is quite limited and that is a shame. Decent metal songs like 'Starshine' and the long 'Heresiarch Profane' deserved better in that respect. Maybe it's better to find a real singer for the next album. Does not take away the fact that Necrytis delivers an excellent record with 'Dread En Ruin'.
