Ramon : The Swedish band Gutter Instinct, founded in 2012, has reached its second effort with this work, after Age Of The Fanatics' from 2016. Collect an image of everything you know about Swedish death metal in the year 2018 and you have a rough picture of what the band has in store for you. The music is chaotic, but clearly with a strong musical background. So it is tight, but not forcedly, they allow their music to breath a bit. Especially the rhythm section is contagious, but the melody lines work for me too. However, it doesn’t get relentless a single moment, although I think the guttural voice would justify that, at times.
Although every single song has its own charm, all-in all it is a bit too much of the same and if there is one thing they excel in, it would be being predictable. And that is not a bad thing, I figure that is what you exactly want when you are looking for in Swedish Zweedse oldschool death metal. With a touch of black, every now and then. But despite the fact i miss out on the urge to bring something new to the table, they do deliver a very strong disk, with a clear identity in their music. For fans of very pure death metal, with a light hint of atmosphere in it, this is an absolute no-brainer, without any reserve.
