Berto : Many bands mix various styles into a song, without giving it their own identity. A bit of this and a bit of that and ultimately the various styles are layer upon layer just like oil does not mix with water. Sometimes there are bands that do create something that shows their own face, even though they also throw different styles together. Casket Feeder has released an EP called 'Scalps', where they mix death metal with hardcore and the first two songs of 'Scalps' are a clear mix of these two styles, songs that are executed with enormous aggression and energy. The lyrics are really spat at you instead of being sung. 'Carve Their Name Upon The Hanging Tree' is the little diamond on this EP, with a black metal sauce poured over the riffs and a slower tempo, which definitely increases the impact. Title track 'Scalps' is more old school death metal, but offers more dynamics than the average band and closer 'Replicant' is by far the most aggressive expression of displeasure I have heard recently. A great band in the making perhaps, this Casket Feeder. They definitely have the band name for chart success.
