Marcel H. : Somehow the second album by Abstracter from the USA, entitled, ‘Wound Empire’, never reached the offices of Lords Of Metal. Luckily ‘Cinereous Incarnate’ did manage to find its way to the headquarters this time around. I was very pleased with the band’s debut ‘Tomb Of Feathers’ back in 2012.So, very curious in regards to this new album of theirs I put it in the player. Album number three ‘Cinereous Incarnate’ contains six songs, of which two are short interludes. What remains are four long songs clocking in at a little over forty minutes. The band still plays nasty sludge post metal with crust influences, but now I also hear quite a lot of black influences and also some ambient and noise and drone. Abstracter has clearly had a musical development over the years. The influences are all nicely fused together and don’t come across forced at any point. It is exciting from start to finish and sucks the listener into a morass of nihilistic caducity. Abstracter has released a very strong album in the form o ‘Cinereous Incarnate’. I am sure the oppressive music will come across really well live in a sweltering hot small venue which is filled with smoke. Visions of the end time will emerge. So… come on over to Europe and suffocate us all.
