Roel de Haan : Velo Misere is a Spanish black metal act and ‘Genealogía Del Eterno Desasosiego’ is their first ep. Spain isn’t exactly boasting with revered black metal bands so slightly hesitant I put this record on and I must say I am pleasantly surprised by the quality on offer here. Velo Misere plays atmospheric black metal in the vein of the Swedish scene fronted by acts like Setherial and Thy Primordial. Which means it isn’t holding back on the aggression at all. However, Velo Misere also incorporates melodic riffing and isn’t shy to use different tempo’s. The sound is murky and slightly muffled, but works for the almost retro-style of the music. The piercing shrieking vocals are well done and bordering on demented, but its abstract qualities really add to the general atmosphere. Subtle yet hard-hitting; ‘Genealogía Del Eterno Desasosiego’ is a black metal release that has much going for it.
