Wim R. : Ryan Roxie is quite a familiar face in the world of Rock & Roll since the mid 80s. He is most known for his role as one of the guitarists for Shock rock legend Alice Cooper. Beside that, Roxie had many projects of his own, Roxie 77 and Dad’s Porno Mag to name just two. Here we have ‘Imagine Your Reality’, his first official solo release.
The album shows quite clearly that Roxie is fond of real American Rock & Roll. And besides that, it is crystal clear that Cheap Trick are one of his musical heroes. He must have been delighted that Cheap Trick vocalist Robin Zander was willing to contribute his vocals to ‘California Man’. A collaboration that turned out pretty good, bringing us a swinging and strong song. This album has a real ‘feel good’ vibe. You can imagine yourself driving Route 66 with this album as your soundtrack. Apart from opener ‘Big Rock Show’, that clocks in at a minute and a half, the rest of the song stay true to the four minute limit. Roxie is a more than capable guitarist, who knows how to put a nice solo to a song for sure. Vocally he may not be the best, but his voice fits the music and feel as he wanted it for ‘Imagine Your Reality’. Apart from the already mentioned ‘California Man’, you might want to take a listen to the up-tempo ‘To Live and Die In L.A.’ and the bluesy ‘Look Me In The Eye’.
