Jori : ‘Crimes Of Man’ is the title of the debut album by the Australian group Matterhorn, a foursome that claims to play pure heavy metal. Opener ‘Judge Not’ does not get the hopes up for this, it is a dragging song that makes seven minutes seem like a lifetime. Next to heavy metal, things sound very groovy and even more towards stoner rather than metal. After this, we get some more fire with ‘Guest Of His Majesty, which still is a groovy track, but leans more towards heavy metal again due to the increased speed. The hoarse female vocals of Amanda may remind you of Doro, but with yet another slow stoner track as ‘Burial Ground’ you might consider labelling this in with the Desert Palm scene in musical terms. Matterhorn is more something like Kyuss or Fu Manchu with a heavy metal twist and female vocals. The faster songs like ‘Asylum’, I Am Become Death’ and the aforementioned ‘Guest Of His Majesty’ are the most interesting ones on this alum. Also the progressive ‘The Riff’ might be worth your time. The rest of the album is rather repeating and monotonous.
