Pim B. : Do you miss Dismember as well? Never mind that as we still have Lik. This Swedish trio shows they don’t have any trouble at all filling the gap Dismember left behind. The fact my colleague Ramon was moderately positive about the debut ’Mass Funeral Evocation’ is understandable. Lik, which means corpse in Swedish by the way, do not deliver any new insights when it comes to death metal. More so, you can’t even call this original. You basically have to take this as an homage to Dismember.
As a fan of Dismember myself I totally dig Lik’s music too. That combination of that specific Swedish Sunlight sound and the Iron Maiden-esque melodies is just dead on target. Metal Blade thought so too. They apparently see some profits and as long as there’s people who love this style that is justified. The band, with members active in Nale, Witchery, Katatonia and Bloodbath, clearly have fun. Together with Lawrence Mackrory (Darkane) they recorded this album that sounds awesome.
So, if you don’t care about originality and simply want to enjoy authentic Swedish death metal you definitely have to give ‘Carnage’ (referring to that other Swedish band) a shot.
