Roel de Haan : Wesenwille is new act based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. In recent times The Netherlands have been quite productive in delivering interesting black metal groups (Dodecahedron, Terzij De Horde, Ulsect etc…) and this debut album ‘I: Wesenwille’ is another example of Dutch black metal of more than average quality. Wesenwille plays black metal with a modern approach in the vein of the French scene. Think of acts like Deathspell Omega, Decline Of The I and perhaps Merrimack. Dissonant, raw and hateful. Aggression is combined with almost dirty riffs, filthy screams and a cold atmosphere. The song structures are quite complex and show a variety of tempo and moods, although the overall dark atmosphere is relatively constantly present. But hey, this is black metal and I wouldn’t have any other way! ‘I: Wesenwille’ is an album that fans of the aforementioned bands should give a chance.
