Wim S. : Our southern neighbors launch another very interesting band: Fields Of Troy. The band has been together for a couple of years now, but until now it came no further than an EP release in 2016. Now there finally is a full length album, ‘The Great Perseverance'. And that has become an excellent album!
The band plays modern metal. That means very heavy but also with a lot of melody. As if you hear a mix of Alter Bridge with Mastodon. Or something like that. While listening to this album, names such as Into Eternity, Aeon Zen and Alice in Chains come to mind. A strange combo you say? That's right, and that's why Fields Of Troy's music might be interesting. The vocals of Louis Soenens also deserve a separate mention. The man knows to use his voice in many different ways. And still good too. From a kind of growl / grunt to clean progressive rock-like vocals. He does that really well. The guitars are heavily grooving, mostly in the tradition of the Nu-Metal bands of the 2000's. The tempo also varies enough to keep the music interesting. A bit slow and tight ('My Temple Broken') but also fast and with double bass drums ('Face The Giant'). Yes, successful album! I wonder how these guys sound live.
