Koen W. : Society's Plague is a melodic metal band from the American town Lexington. They have been around since 2007 and have played several hundreds of shows. In 2008 they released an EP followed in 2010 by their debut 'The Human, The Canvas’. Despite the growing interest, the band stopped for a while from 2013 to 2015. In 2017 they came back in the studio to record 'Call To The Void'. The British Eclipse Records was so interested in this, that they signed the band and the album now appears through this label.
The band shows a lot of Swedish death metal influences and sounds more European than American. There is a lot of speed in their songs. The melodic elements provide an open atmosphere and a desirable sound that does not seem aggressive at all. Any holes are carefully filled by the keyboards that keeps track of the rhythm of the guitars in songs like 'Distant Waves' or 'The Fall'. With 'Broken By Design' the same keyboard then provides a softer break halfway through the song. They are also quite strong vocally. The grunts are frequently alternated with clean vocals. More than that, Bjorn Strid joins the vocals in Distant Waves. Technically, it does not yet work as strongly as Amorphis or Soilwork. That is still a matter of time. Fans of this nature are allowed to listen to this tape and will be satisfied with this.
