Job : The French are good at metalcore. The genre is still ever so booming over there and the modern subgenre we now know as technical metalcore or “djent” is probably most popular. The Dali Thundering Concept is a group that would love to ride that hype train and while they’re very obviously inspired by bands like Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, All Shall Perish and of course Meshuggah, they seem to spice things up with some fusion influences as well as some death and black.
‘Savages’ is the band’s second release and while it’s fairly long for its style, it does hit some high points. Intense, over-the-top and aggressive, the boys handle their chops with precision. The lyrics however, will be the divisive aspect – grounded in a romantic view of a dystopian modern society, a lot of it is complaining about capitalism, right-wing populism and it all starts to feel rather whiny as it goes on and on. The overall picture will appeal to some and repelled by others, so instead of recommending this, I’d invite you to listen for yourself.
