Wim R. : Four piece band Sixgun Renegades was founded in 2007 and hails from Helsinki, Finland. After releasing two E.P albums, this is the first full length release from the band. It is released worldwide by the V.R. label. It is clear that the band is inspired by the rock that was common in the seventies and eighties, with band like Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy and Van Halen as main inspirers. For nine songs the band takes us back to this period, supported by a very nice and clear production. Musically, the band has everything sorted out, but lead singer Niko Räty is the least convincing factor. His voice is not that bad or disturbing, but not more than mediocre. But in the lead guitar department Räty is convincing for sure, resulting in some very nice guitar work. It is the song that comes first with Sixgun Renegades. So, do not expect unnecessary parts or ego mania. The semi ballad ‘Lost And Found’ is a very well crafted piece of music. It contains everything you could expect when you were a rocker back in the day. Other good songs are Renegade’, ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Loaded Gun’. The latter covers the first half of the album. After ‘Loaded Gun’ the quality drops a bit and it looks that the band ran out of bullets. The weak album closer ‘Here To Stay’ gives this album an ending it does not deserve. Too bad, as it is clear that Sixgun Renegades knows how to write a good song or two.
