Berto : The French Eryn Non Dae started out under the name END, but the band changed that quite quickly. I am not familiar with the previous work of the band so I cannot compare. On 'Abandon Of The Self' is a lot of spherical music, which rests on a rhythmic basis, often starting quite calmly, but building up to stronger and fiercer parts. Opener 'Astral' is a typical example, but successor 'Stellar' is already quieter and more toned down with a singing voice that tells a story in a compelling way, accompanied by calm guitar work and drums. 'Omni' lets the raw vocal style play the leading role with even a moment for a grunt or two. It is music that works on an emotional level, by lulling you to sleep with a calm structure, after which they penetrate your mind with mesmerizing guitars and vocal parts. 'Eclipse', on the other hand, goes directly for the jugular, with those piercing guitar parts and raw vocals that sound very emotional, contrasting with the clean vocals that sound like a protest voice. That is where the power of Eryn Non Dae lies, in creating an atmosphere that is threatening, that serves as a place where protest sounds, but also where hope is shining through. 'Abandon Of The Self' is an emotional statement. Musically and lyrically.
