William Pezy : Eleanor is an established name in Japan, but in Europe the big breakthrough is yet to come. Their performance on the eleventh issue of Metal Female Voice Fest will surely help. Eleanor was founded in 2006 by Ippei J. Malmsteen and beautiful singer Shiori Vitus. I am sure that I do not have to tell you what instrument Ippei uses. The band named itself after the beautiful song ‘Eleanor’ from The Gathering. In 2011 debut album ‘A Circle of Lament’ was released and in 2013 followed by ‘Breathe Life Into The Essence’. The current release ‘Celestial Nocturne’ dates from 2016 but because of a global record deal with label Mighty Music the album is re-released globally with three impressive bonus songs.

The first thing that is clear is that the vocals are in Japanese. The video has English subtitles that help me understand the lyrics because my Japanese is not that good. Shiori has a very nice voice that is quite distinctive. Musically it is best described as intelligent, technical and well written progressive rock/metal. Beautiful percussion and good guitar parts make it attractive. Some songs have also an acoustical version on the album and they are amazing. This album is to be recommended.
