Ren : This band started in 1997 as a one-man project by drummer Paulus Kressman, founding member of the Canadian black metal band Sacramentary Abolishment. Under the name Rites Of Thy Degringolade he released a self-titled demo and the album 'The Carytid' (2000). After that he recruited some musicians and went on to release several other albums. They disbanded in 2006 and after some other projects Kressman got the band back together in 2015. This record is the first result of that.
Description of the music of this band is not really simple. The music is obviously rooted in black metal but it also contains lots of influences of other types of extreme metal. Most tracks are rather long, it's got lots of variation and complexity, it's fast and feels aggressive, but what stands out the most is the high level of musicianship. Especially Kressman's drumming is very consequent and really good. Although it doesn’t sound like Emperor or Limbonic Art (minus the keyboards) it kinda reminds me of that. This together with an injection of Marduk and some blackend thrash like Order From Chaos raps it up I guess. The band also has quite interesting lyrics and some kind of philosophical theme. It's clear to me that this band took a lot of effort to come up with the whole thing.
