Koen S. : Paara was started as a two man project back in 2011 with the idea to compose music just for themselves, but in 2014 Zvartus and Helmouth decided to go ahead with a full lineup. Their debut album 'Yön olevainen puoli' saw the daylight in 2015 and several special guests from bands like Swallow The Sun, Moonsorrow and Katatonia did contributions for the album. Now Paara returns with ‘Riitti’, a forty-minute epic folk/black metal album consisting of four songs. The clean vocals are sung by Zvartus, the raw black metal parts by Helmouth and Hahtezan (aka Natalie Koskinen), full member in the meantime and also singer for Shape Of Despair, supports these two gentlemen with her velvety voice. By the way, Paara is sung entirely in Finnish. The raw black metal parts are fairly accessible due to the excellent production and the folk parts are dreamy and catchy, the guitar parts sound often refreshing and sometimes melancholic. The album cover was designed by David Thiérrée, who also made cover artwork for Behemoth (Sventevith Storming Near The Baltic and Grom), Mortiis and Satanic Warmaster. Fans of atmospheric black and epic, slightly progressive metal should definitely check ‘Riitti’.
