Roel de Haan : Ljuska is a one-man black metal outfit and ‘Vessel Of The Void’ is his first full-length. Now Ljuska isn’t a typical one-man band. Do not expect a noisy Burzum or Darkthrone emulation, but a slightly more sophisticated approach. Although at first sight the recording quality is somewhat of letdown; the music itself is quite enjoyable. Influenced by acts such Ved Buens Ende…, Dissection, Satyricon and Shining, Ljuska sounds dynamic, varied and authentic. Moreover the melodies are nice and eerie and the contrast between fast and slow have the right effect. Some tracks do feel somewhat bloated and a few segues could have been more fluent, but as a whole ‘Vessel Of The Void’ seems to indicate that Ljuska could be a name to keep in mind.
