Harms Way - Posthuman

Label : Metal Blade | Archive under punk / hardcore

Release type: Full-length CD

Job : February 9th will see the release of Harms Way’s fourth full-length, titles ‘Posthuman’. The group from Chicago shouldn’t really raise expectations of progress, honestly; like many in their genre, the band plays kinda cliché heavy hardcore where one or two riffs might be repeated over the course of a short song and breakdowns are needlessly forced into the most awkward spaces. In a world where Hatebreed, Madball and other Northeastern hardcore bands are your teachers, what do you expect…

Let’s cut to the chase, though: ‘Posthuman’ is a copy + paste record. Where previous full-length ‘Rust’ was already a rehash of what was done better before by other bands, ‘Posthuman’ just sounds uninspired – the band hasn’t even bothered changing the guitar tuning, let alone work on their song writing. Full of simplistic meathead rage, the band just slams from one song to the next without a moment of thought or pondering their stylistic choices. This might be a decent substitute for fans of the genre that are wistfully thinking back on the days where Jasta’s formation was calling the shots but for anyone who might’ve been out of the loop for a while (like I imagine 99% of people are), this is just more of the same old shit.
