Berto : Horizon Ablaze from Norway have chosen a difficult but rewarding subject for the lyrics on their new album 'The Weight Of A Thousand Suns'. They describe a journey through the human brain and the processing of the deepest demons and dreams. Every song deals with another mental disorder and it describes fighting against and at the same time embracing your inner demons. The accompanying music is a mix between death metal and black metal, with a slightly progressive tone and a clear footprint in the present. The riffs are inventive and the vocals are sometimes quite distorted which is just perfectly fitting to the subject of the song in question. Musically it is really clear tha the band is experienced as the songs are full of creativity, dynamics and they are above all well balanced. There is little point in picking specific songs, they all have their own identity and work as separate chapters in a novel. Every song is rhythmic, contagious and, let’s not forget the most mportant thing, really heavy. There have even been made comparisons with the band Emperor, but that is bit far-fetched and the vocals of Andre Kvebek are quite far from the regular black metal vocal style. But that the band will make an impression with this 'The Weight Of A Thousand Suns' is certainly true.
