Jori : Omelette de fromage, nom de dieu!
Yeah true, that was really bad. But these are jokes you kind of ask for when you play metal sung in French. Fortunately, the music of Manigance is better than my sense of humour, for quite a few years and six albums already by the way. Musically the band reminds a lot of the older Edguy work, though some keyboard lines add a fine Stratovarius flavouring to the music, like in the song ‘Machination’. Despite the English title of the album, all lyrics are still in French, and yeah, that is something you probably either like or hate. There is little to commend on the quality of the melodic power metal of these guys though. Things can hardly be described with words like innovative or renewing, but in these day, how many bands still can? The level of the music is solid with songs like ‘Loin D’ici’ and ‘L’un De L’autre’. As long as this band continues to sing in French, a breakthrough on a larger scale on le niveau international is not something that will happen anytime soon, but still this is a very decent album that fans of traditional power metal need not at all avoid.
