Berto : Caelestia from Greece started out under the name Me And Myself as a gothic doom band. After guitarist Vassilis Thomas joined the band, the music leaned more towards progressive music and death metal. Their debut album 'Beyond Abyss' was well received at the time and now there is the follow-up 'Thanatopsis' which is full of symphonic death metal that refers to Cradle Of Filth and Fleshgod Apocalypse. With vocalist Dimitra Talamantes there is of course the well-known 'beauty and the beast' interaction in the vocal department, but it works really well. For me, this two-part vocal style is boring after a few songs, but that is purely a personal thing. The production is crystal clear, so that all the details in the songs are easy to hear and that you can actually hear that you are dealing with an experienced band who knows exactly what they want and how to write good songs. However, there are also bands that do this kind of thing a little better, or perhaps better said they do it a bit different. They have just that extra raw edge that makes the music easier to remember and makes it linger. But let it be clear that 'Thanatopsis' is an excellent album in the genre and will certainly find its way to the lovers of melodic death metal with a theatrical slant.
