Sicktus : Bleeding Gods are a Dutch quintet, founded in 2012. The released their debut ’Shepherd Souls’ in 2015 through Punishment 18 Records and have recently inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records, who will be releasing ‘Dodekathlon’ january 2018.
Musically, the band have changed their course quite a bit compared to the debut – and have upped the ante on quality as well. On ‘Dodekathlon’, we get a healthy dose of epic, layered death metal, featuring atmospheric keys, with a full, heavy sound and using inspiration from across a bunch of genres, whether it be a modern, melodic approach of black or the orchestral, technical death a band such as Septic Flesh or Fleshgod Apocalypse might play, to classical influences. Bleeding Gods show they are definitely no one trick pony, but a very dynamic band. Lyrically, the album deals with well known (and lesser known) stories from Greek mythology, which adds to the epic and storytelling feel of the album.
In short: with 'Dodekathlon', Bleeding Gods deliver a powerful piece of brooding, dark and melodic metal that has a tremendously broad range. Should appeal to fans of such genre powerhouses as Dimmu Borgir and Septic Flesh alike!
