Henk : Haunt is the new project from Trevor William Church, son of Montrose bass player Bill Church and in daily life singer/guitarist of doom band Beastmaker. With this four track EP he presents his new band. The question remains if it is a one man project or a real band. The accompanying info is not really clear about that. The record starts with the Thin Lizzy meets Black Sabbath like track 'Luminous Eyes'. The natural, raw production is something that stands out on this track which gives an authentic feel to the music. Melodic twin guitar parts are the main ingredient of this hard rock song.
The following 'As Fire Burns' has the same recipe although a bit heavier and optimistic. Again the raw production which is a big plus for the traditional hard rock from Haunt. I would not be surprised if no more than eight tracks were used recording this EP. 'No Master' is again a mix between Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath were Trevor even sounds a bit like early Ozzy.
Last song on this very good debut release is 'Fallen Star'. Also a very decent hard rock track with twin guitar parts and a swinging groove that reminds of 'Over The Mountain' from the Ozzy album 'Diary Of A Madman'. With this debut 'Luminous Eyes', Haunt presents a very good introduction that makes curious what he will bring on a full length album. Fans of traditional hard rock should definitely try this one out.
