Wim R. : With ‘Chapter Two: DigitHell’ German based Red Raven released their, you guessed it, second effort, fronted by singer Frank Beck, who also handles vocal duties in Gamma Ray. In the biography Beck is presented as a vocalist extraordinaire. Well, I would like to specify him as a singer who is quite capable of what he is doing, but not that spectacular to my ears. Just like many other Teutonic metal releases, this album is well crafted, heavy and clearly a German metal product. And don’t take this the wrong way, for these gents sure know what they’re doing.
After a short intro and four songs, there is even room for some humor (who said Germans did not have that?) with the song ‘Proud’, with as overture a well-known classic piece that returns a few times in the actual song, spiced-up with that typical Teutonic vocal harmonies. The title track is one of the highlights for me, a good heavy song, where Beck shows his true vocal potential. I would conclude in saying that ‘Chapter Two: DigitHell’ is a worthy representation of the current quality on offering in Germany. Fans will love it me thinks.
