Dennis : From the Land of Flowers, Florida, comes this black swamp metal one-man band Worm. This project was started in 2012 by a character who calls himself Fantomslaughter. Two demos were released in 2014 (entitled ‘The Deep Dark Earth Underlines All’) and 2016 (entitled ‘Nights in Hell’) respectively and now it seems to be time for a full length cassette / LP release. ‘Evocation of the Black Marsh’ is the title of his debut album, which will be released through Iron Bonehead Productions.
Now, I wrote black swamp metal before, and I guess you all want to know what it sounds like, since you’re still reading. I’d say Fantomslaughter has definitely been influenced by early Darkthrone, especially by the demo works on the album that was later released as ‘Goatlord’. The recordings on ‘Evocation of the Black Marsh’ sound like a rehearsal tape (which is done on purpose, I suppose) and the compositions are quite simplistic. The overall atmosphere is very dark, evil and misanthropic and it sounds like this was recorded back in the early nineties. I have to give Worm credit for that, the music scores high on atmosphere, but the whole release is not more than rehearsal quality. If you like your black metal dirty, raw and uncut like this, then be sure to check this release out. If you are looking for black metal with at least a decent production, then this is not for you.
