Job : Catchy Mastodon influences, mixed with a substantial slice of doom metal and just a pinch of metalcore and you end up with something like The Ditch and the Delta from Salt Lake, Utah. The gentlemen are signed to Prosthetic and have just released their new album ‘Hives in Decline’ in September. On it, the listener gets treated to what happens when you let Mastodon’s Brent Hinds cover Earth and Sleep while he’s on crack. Personally, I’m in love with the way the guitars and bass are molded into something best described as a tank waltzing over any precious preconceptions you might’ve had about heaviness. However, I will say that the songs are overly long, and with the exception of ‘Fuck on Asphalt’, the songs mostly lack purpose and a clear goal; more often than not, the songs themselves tend to drag, leaving you wondering why this slow, meandering part is now rehashed for the 15th time. People already into stoner/sludge are gonna love this, while my fellow headbangers usually unimpressed with the genre are not going to change their minds with this album.
