Jori : Pereplut, or Переплут for those fluent in the Russian language, is a folk metal band from the very centre of Russia. The huge and scarcely populated area has very likely had its resonance on the sound of the group, the sound creates a sense of emptiness and space. Pereplut reminds mostly of Eluveitie if any bigger name must be called and is also a large group with string and flute players next to the “standard” instruments. In spite of all lyrics and song titles being in Russian, ‘At The Ancient Times’ is quite enjoyable. My personal favourites are songs number 5 and 7 (That’s as detailet as you get it). The vocals are a matter of opinion, the good man can’t sing for a dime, but if there is one style of metal in which that doesn’t matter in the slightest, it has to be folk metal (Korpiklaani, anyone?). As long as everything sounds amusing, and that is what it does. You’ll have to look past the weak production, the plain ridiculous artwork and some other silly stuff (rookie mistakes?), and you’ll find this a quite amusing piece of work
