Koen S. : Dwarves metal! It is getting crazier by the day in the world of metal! Khazaddum from the United States plays it, so it exists! On their self-released debut ’Plagues Upon Arda’ there is no place for little dwarves from Snow White who are tottering around on the tones of a lullaby, no, this is about barbaric creatures that will destroy everything on their quest through Middle Earth.
Modern, technical, brutal death metal full of tight riffs, a lot of lead guitar and blastbeats. The soloing is entertaining, never sounding out of place and the songwriting is above average. Symphonic and orchestral passages are used to stress the epic character of the album. The also brutal vocalist Luka Djordjevic, who looks a bit like such a mythical dwarf from Middle Earth, does a good job on vocal duties, but I think the vocals are a little monotonous in this otherwise versatile story: a second voice could have been an option here. Fans of J.R.R Tolkien should certainly check this disc and ‘Plagues Upon Arda’ could also please all lovers of Nile and solid death metal in general.
