Koen S. : Theotoxin is a new band and after one year they are already rumbling at the gates of heaven to ram their first album ‘Atramentvm’ in Saint Peter’s throat.
Theotoxin plays blackened death metal and they do this very convincing. The brutality and aggressiveness splatters of the record: this is no metal for acolytes. Literally, because everything that has to do with Christianity is being ruthless demolished here. In ‘My Harlot’ for example you can hear the following: Masochistic fantasies, Son of God get on your knees, My rod will furnish you well, I´ll show you my bondage hell! That is the way we are spoiled literary for twenty-eight minutes. The black death metal which Theotoxin regurgitates, sounds surprisingly melodic and the heretic screams and growls of vocalist Mantus are stale and disgusting. Martin Shirenc, well known for his work in Pungent Stench and Hollenthon, played synths and did the layout of ‘Atramentvm’.
I have hesitated for a long time to use the name Belphegor in this review and I was not going to, but eventually the comparison would be made anyway, so therefore this: Theotoxin also hails from Austria and also plays extremely blasphemous metal, but they are not a watered down version.
Theotoxin is going to reach the top by itself!
