Roel de Haan : In Tormentata Quite is back with their fourth album already. On this ‘Finestatico’ the Italian avant-garde gothic metal outfit continue with their idiosyncratic modus operandi of blending styles. Fusing black metal with gothic, classical music, folk and modern metal into a quite original whole. Often emotionally charged but also aggressive at times, contrasted by female vocals, screams and elaborate orchestrations. The songs are so full of different elements in could be experienced as bloated, but some perseverance will sort that out I think. The screams are clearly a remnant of their early days and to be honest I think they could do without them as they do not add much to the whole experience. In Tormentata Quite is a band that clearly knows what they want and how to achieve it. ‘Finestatico’ is a well crafted album that offers more than meets ear and isn’t easily digested but fans of gothic metal who are open for a challenging musical experience should definitely check this out.
