Cedric : I think this is the first time ever that I encounter a metal band hailing from Dubai. Yes, you read that right, Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The political and religious situation in that region is not really clear to me, but still it does not seem to be an easy task being a metal band in that part of the world. On top of that the music that Kaihon plays is quite heavy, which will definately gather some more attention for them in their home country.

‘Terraform’ is the debut EP from the band and the five bandmembers without a doubt make a good impression on it. Their music sounds modern, heavy, technical and melodic. Like a mix of bands such as Animals As Leaders, Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth, Periphery, Bring Me The Horizon and a dash of Gojira. Metalcore, modern djent and death metal influences are blended together into a very powerful result. The band clearly knows how to handle their instruments, and especially the melodic soloing sounds amazing. Technical playing is to be found all over the album, but it never overshadows the song. Also the vocals sound brutal and range from powerful screaming to the very occasional clean sung part.

Productionwise the EP sounds very tight as well. The three songs (and an intro) should, if everything goes as it should, at least gather the necessary attention for the band amongst a larger audience. The quality of the music is definately there to please fans of the genre. I must admit that the genre is not completely my cup of tea, but when something is good you just have to admit it. Way to go guys!
