Marcel H. : After ‘The Scourge Of Ages’ had previously been released by the band themselves in digital form and on cassette by Pale Horse Recordings Dawnbreed Records now releases it on 12” vinyl and limited and hand numbered to 300 copies on black vinyl and 100 copies on gold coloured vinyl. Moss Upon The Skull from Brussels delivers some mighty fine technical death metal. Please don’t think of slickly ironed soulless technical death metal such as Necrophagist and Obscura, but think of raw technical death metal such as a band as Demilich delivers. Even though I mention Demilich here Mioss Upon The Skull sounds nothing like them. The technical aspect can mostly be found in the complexity of the songs. However, more than enough melodic parts can be discerned, especially where the guitar lines are clean, to keep it all memorable. The raw production even sees to it that it all gets something nasty over it. But it isn’t so raw that everything is drowned out. A mighty fine release and Dawnbreed Records did well to release it on vinyl.
