Erik M. : This Swedish all-star death metal horde was formed in 2012 and started off as Fireborn. Conceived by Necrophobic bassist A. Impaler, Entombed A.D. vocalist Lars-Göran Petrov and bassist Victor Brandt the band transformed malignly over the next two years. The addition of Unleashed guitarist Fredrik Folkare and Usurpress drummer Matte Modin ultimately sealed Fireborn’s diabolical deal. After the band was picked up by Century Media in 2015 they morphed themselves into Firespawn and released their debut album 'Shadow Realms' the same year. This band eats, drinks and obviously lives (death) metal! 'The Reprobate' clocks just over 45 minutes, in my humble opinion the perfect length for a brutal release like this one. Recognizable influences from the wide death metal spectrum rumble like a freight train on the loose, hell yeah! Petrov's typical vocal style sits comfortable between the blast beats and grooves, without being “another Swedish sounding release”. This is homage to complete scene! 'Death By Impalement' (nice mid-tempo groove!), 'Nightwalkers' (Arch Enemy feel), 'Damnatio Ad Bestiasen The Reprobate' (Morbid Angel drippin’) are lively witnesses on this second Firespawn release. Originality is a word that can’t be found on this one, but we don’t care. Great release!
